Experienced duo takes charge at GB Holdings

Listed conveyor belts manufacturer, General Beltings Holdings Limited has appointed Tichaona Mabeza as its chairman and Joseph Gunda as the group managing director.

In a notice, the firm said Mabeza and Gunda’s appointment is effective June 28 and July 1, 2024, respectively.

Mabeza joined the board of GB Holdings on January 4, 2015 serving on the Finance and Business Committee where he became chairman, and later joined the Human Resources Committee as well.

He is an accomplished professional and holds a Bachelor of Business Studies from the University of Zimbabwe and is an associate of the Chartered Governance Institute.

“He is the group company secretary of a listed blue chip financial services group with over 30 years of experience.

“He also is a board member of some of the group’s subsidiary entities and is chairman of the group’s pension fund,” said Patrick Munyanyi, the company secretary.

Mabeza takes over from Godfrey Nhemachena who retired after serving for nearly 20 years as chairman.

On the other hand Gunda is a seasoned business leader who has over 33 years of industrial experience.

Before this appointment, Gunda held the position of general manager at General Beltings, the flagship division of GB Holdings for 13 years.

He has a notable career that includes positions at several prominent companies in Zimbabwe, such as Saltrama Plastex, Zimbabwe Sugar Refineries, Chemplex Refineries and Clay Products, where he rose through the ranks.

In addition, he spent 3 years in Botswana working for the Lobatse Clay Works, a subsidiary of the Botswana Development Corporation.

Gunda holds a Bachelor of Technology Degree (Honours) in Applied Chemistry and Chemical Technology and an MBA, both from the University of Zimbabwe.

The company secretary said, “He is a respected figure in the industry, having held various key positions at the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI), including chamber president for Matabeleland and national vice president, a role he currently holds.”

He takes over from Tsuroh, who retired after serving the group for 19 years.

GB Holdings was incorporated as General Beltings (Private) Limited on 24 June 1968.

Its products were manufactured under the Balatros trade name until the decision in 2000 to acquire the SABS 1173 product mark.

In July 2005 General Beltings was merged with Cernol Chemicals (Private) Limited and was renamed GB Holdings Limited on 6 August 2007.

General Beltings and Cernol Chemicals currently operate as divisions of GB Holdings Limited.
