Explore Bulawayo’s rich heritage, summit delegates urged

THE Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Bulawayo Metropolitan Province, Judith Ncube, has urged delegates attending the Labour and Employment Summit to take time to explore the city’s iconic heritage sites and tourism attractions.

Delivering her welcome remarks, Hon Ncube said Bulawayo was more than just a business and conference destination, describing it as Zimbabwe’s cultural capital with a wealth of attractions that tell the country’s rich history.

She encouraged delegates from across Zimbabwe and beyond to extend their stay and visit some of Bulawayo’s renowned heritage sites, museums and cultural landmarks.

“Bulawayo is a city steeped in history and culture. While delegates are here for the summit, we encourage them to take advantage of the opportunity to explore our heritage sites and experience the warmth and hospitality that the city is known for,” she said.

“Our heritage is a source of pride, and by visiting these places, delegates will gain a deeper appreciation of Zimbabwe’s history, culture and traditions while also supporting the local tourism economy.”

Hon Ncube said Bulawayo was home to some of the country’s finest museums, historic monuments and natural attractions, making it an ideal destination for both business and leisure tourism.

She highlighted attractions such as the Natural History Museum of Zimbabwe, the Bulawayo Railway Museum, the Khami World Heritage Site, Matobo National Park and other cultural landmarks that continue to attract visitors from around the world.

“The city offers an unforgettable experience for anyone interested in history, wildlife, culture and heritage. We want every visitor who comes to Bulawayo to leave with lasting memories of what our province has to offer,” she said.

Hon Ncube said Government remained committed to promoting domestic tourism while positioning Bulawayo as a preferred destination for conferences, exhibitions and cultural events.

She noted that major national gatherings such as the Zimbabwe Labour and Employment Summit provided an opportunity to showcase Bulawayo’s tourism potential and stimulate economic activity for hotels, restaurants, transport operators, craft markets and other local businesses.

“As Government, we continue to support initiatives that market Bulawayo as a tourism and investment destination. Conferences such as these create opportunities for delegates to experience the city’s attractions while contributing to the growth of the local economy,” she said.

The Minister also encouraged residents to play their part in preserving the city’s heritage by maintaining a clean environment and extending hospitality to visitors.

The Labour and Employment Summit has drawn delegates from Government, organised labour, employers’ organisations, academia, development partners and the private sector to discuss key issues affecting the country’s labour market and employment landscape.
