Expo 2025 Osaka: A chance to market brand Zim

Sunday Mail Correspondent

ZIMBABWE will be afforded the opportunity to market itself as a premier destination for tourism, investment and trade at Expo 2025 Osaka in Japan next year.

Widely regarded as the world’s biggest expo, Expo 2025 Osaka, formally known as the World Expo, is scheduled to take place from April 13 to October 13, 2025.

More than 150 countries and international organisations are expected to participate in the event, each presenting its innovations and cultural exhibitions at dedicated pavilions.

Zimbabwe’s commissioner-general for Expo 2025 Osaka Mr Allan Majuru said the event is an opportunity to “rewrite the Zimbabwe story on the global stage”.

“It is a significant opportunity for us as a country to enhance our nation’s branding and share our story with the world.

“We will reshape international perceptions, which will enable us to project a positive image, fostering a deeper appreciation and understanding of Zimbabwe’s unique contributions to the global community. We aim to showcase the true Zimbabwe, a nation of warm hospitality, stunning landscapes and a rich cultural gastronomy,” he said.

He further said engagements are underway to promote the expo and gather ideas across the country.

“To ensure that the pavilion authentically represents Zimbabwean traditions, cultures and practices, we have embarked on extensive engagement and publicity activities across the country. This nationwide initiative is designed to gather ideas and solutions from diverse communities, ensuring that the pavilion embodies the true spirit of Zimbabwe,” he added.

“This participatory approach will not only enhance the pavilion’s authenticity but also foster a sense of national pride and unity.”

The World Expo will also present a strategic platform for Zimbabwe to promote its trade and investment opportunities.

“Our goal is to use Expo 2025 Osaka as a launchpad for Zimbabwean businesses to access new markets and forge international partnerships. We believe that by highlighting the quality and uniqueness of Zimbabwean products, we can significantly enhance our trade footprint globally.

“The pavilion will feature sectors with high growth potential, such as agriculture, education, mining, manufacturing and technology.”

Zimbabwe is expected to showcase the country’s investor-friendly policies, highlighting successful case studies of foreign investment in Zimbabwe.

The theme for the expo is “Designing Future Society for Our Lives”.

It will also be supported by three sub-themes, which are “Connecting Lives”, “Saving Lives” and “Empowering Lives”.

Zimbabwe will participate in the “Connecting Lives” sub-theme, which resonates with the country’s engagement and re-engagement efforts.
