Expo for high school, college students

Students from different schools and colleges around the country started thronging the “My Zim University, College ZimEd Expo 2016” two days ago, an event which ends today. The event is being hosted by Culture Shock Trust at Moto Replublik, Belgravia, Harare. This is an educational exhibition fair of higher education institutions in Zimbabwe to high school learners.The event seeks to give participating educational institutions and stakeholders in the tertiary education sector an opportunity to showcase their academic programmes to many high school students and parents.

Universities and other higher education institutions are critical to the development of any nation.

There are currently 14 universities, nine polytechnics, four industrial training centres, 12 teachers colleges and over 20 private colleges in Zimbabwe.

Even though an increasing number of Zimbabwean students choose to study abroad, there remains a significant number of those who further their studies in tertiary institutions in the country.

These institutions attract students from all over Zimbabwe, and many parts of Africa.

Culture Shock Trust founder Nqobile Munzara said the educational exhibition gives institutions and stakeholders in the tertiary education sector an opportunity to showcase their programmes to high school students who are ready to begin making career choices.

“The exhibition began on May 19 to Saturday May 21, giving high schools students the chance to have face-to-face interactions with university and college officials, banks, and other social enterprises in tertiary education, and ultimately access unparalleled networking possibilities free of charge as there are no entry fees into the Expo,” he said.

Some of the exhibitors who are taking part in the exhibition include Ezekiel Guti University, Zimbabwe Open University, Lupane State University, Great Zimbabwe University, ZB Bank, Culinary Arts Academy, MacMaine School of Computing, Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, British Council to name a few. The Expo is being sponsored by MBCA Bank and CBZ Bank as well as the ZimEd Expo.
