THE Language Legacy Expo is set to be hosted on August 10.
Hosted by Consultus Publishing Services and LitFest Harare, the event will celebrate Shona language and literature to encourage reading culture, literacy and cultural heritage.
The event will feature a book discussion between renowned author Giles Kuimba and scholar Dr Reggermore Marongedze.
LitFest Harare director, Chirikure Chirikure, said the expo will highlight the role of literature in local languages, including Shona, in the 21st century.
“This event is part of ongoing language legacy ten-week expo, which we launched on July 27, to honour culture and heritage through literary and visual arts.
“There will be activities such as book swapping, book market, controlled reading workshops for teachers and parents, kids corner and live spoken word performances.
“Since its launch, the expo has been well received by various stakeholders including writers, educational institutions, cultural organisations, children and parents.
“This initiative shines the spotlight on our languages and culture in line with aims of the Heritage-based curriculum.
“We are looking forward to more stakeholders and audiences coming on board as we uplift our languages, arts and cultural heritage,” said Chirikure.
