Extra lessons illegal — court

Harare Bureau
A Harare magistrate yesterday ruled that it is illegal for school teachers to conduct extra lessons. Harare Civil Court magistrate, Yeukai Dzuda, said this yesterday while presiding over a maintenance case between Christina Mutowino and her ex-lover Alexio Matare.

Responding to Mutowino’s demands for maintenance money for extra lessons for her three minor children, Dzuda told her that she could not claim for that money since extra lessons are illegal.

“You can’t claim for money to be used for extra lessons. That’s illegal and therefore you’ve to drop that . . .,” she said.

Mutowino was demanding $215 per month for the upkeep of her three minor children per month from Matare.

“I want $215 per month for the upkeep of my three minor children. I’m a vendor realising a little over $40 the whole month and I want this man’s hand in taking care of the minor children.

“He’s well positioned to raise that amount every month. He earns $273 per month and has no other wife nor any minor child to look after,” she said.

Matare offered to pay $80 per month for the three children saying he also has other responsibilities.

Dzuda ordered him to pay $150 per month for the upkeep of the three minors starting May 30.
