adminCape Town — The South Africa Weather Service has classified the current heatwave being experienced by parts of South Africa as “extreme”, and has warned that it is set to persist until tomorrow.Forecaster Edwin Thema said that those affected can expect “high levels of discomfort throughout the weekend, with afternoon showers expected on Sunday.”
The areas most severely affected are Gauteng, the western Bushveld of Limpopo, the North-West province, the north-western parts of the Free State and the northern parts of the Northern Cape.
The Northern Cape can expect to reach past 40°C at the peak of the heatwave, with other affected areas reaching the high 30s.
The SA Weather Service urged people to be vigilant throughout the heatwave and be alert for possible wildfires.
Temperatures are expected to drop on Monday. — Sapa
