adminHealth and Child Welfare Minister Deputy Minister Dr Douglas Mombeshora said the equipment would go a long way in alleviating problems associated with obsolete equipment in hospital eye units.
“My ministry has been working with church-based organisations in carrying out its responsibilities and I want to thank Eyes for Zimbabwe for the work they have done,” he said at a function to receive the equipment last week.
“The equipment will be sent to various hospitals and will be of good use.”
Dr Mombeshora applauded the National Railways of Zimbabwe and the Mozambique Ports and Railways for facilitating the transportation of the equipment from Mozambique to Zimbabwe.
The equipment was sourced from the United States.
Speaking at the same occasion, Eyes for Zimbabwe director Mr Reginald Nield said the medical equipment would help restore eyesight to many blind people.
“This equipment among them bandages, endotracheal tubes, catheter kits, oxygen tubings, block trays, humidifiers and exam gloves came from America and will help in the undertaking of eyesight operations such as removing cataracts,” he said.
