Held at Tshabalala Youth Centre last Friday, the workshop aimed to elevate performing groups, talented artistes and future artistes to greater heights.
Although this month’s event was poorly attended, artistes such as Intombi Zomqangala member Titibele Phiri, young talented poet Bhekumuzi Sibanda, CL POP and Classic Movers livened up the event.
In an interview, workshop officer, Future Dube, said this month’s event was the fifth and its mainly aimed at creating awareness in society.
“We don’t want these artistes to come here to sing, dance and recite poems only but we also want to open the platform to create awareness towards certain ills.
“So many girls are falling prey to teenage pregnancies and these are some of the issues that we would be tackling to curb social deviance,” he said.
Phiri, who staged a drumming set with her son, Nqobizitha, wowed the audience.
The audience also encouraged women to emulate Phiri’s stance as she poses as a courageous figure who nurtured her son’s talent at a tender age.
Hailing from Njube was a young talented poet Sibanda who took to the floor with an energetic piece that left many yearning for more.
The audience urged renowned poets to groom such youngsters at a tender age so that they polish up their skills when reciting poems.
Dube said that the workshop also sought to create a relationship between the Eziko Theatre Arts Laboratory and artistes who in future can be given certificates as a way of acknowledging their talents.
