EZIKO Theatre Laboratory, a programme set to provide a platform for artistes to work together in reviewing and critiquing their work, will today roar back to life at Indlovu Youth Centre in Tshabalala after a four-month hiatus. An initiative of Victory Siyanqoba Arts, Eziko Theatre Laboratory which was established in 2009, used to hold monthly meetings.
The programme has proven to be effective especially for budding artistes as it offers them a chance to mix and mingle with their established counterparts.
Besides building a sense of unity among artistes, Eziko Theatre Laboratory also seeks to bridge the gap that exists between artistes and their community by providing an opportunity for them to work together.
Desire Moyo, the brains behind this initiative and director of Victory Siyanqoba Arts, said he hoped the programme will run smoothly without disruptions until the end of the year.
“We last held Eziko Theatre Laboratory in March this year because the group was busy working on a certain production.
“However, the programme is now back in full swing as on Friday artistes from various disciplines will converge at our traditional venue in Tshabalala,” said Moyo.
The event which has been dubbed Musicians and Dancers Fete will see a number of Bulawayo-based dance groups, poets and musicians battling for superiority before arts lovers.
Dance groups such as Simunye Simunye, Kwabatsha, Siyaya and Shosholoza among others are expected to light up the event.
Ndux Junior and kwaito star, Mjox will be among musicians lined up for this talent-nurturing occasion.
Ndolwane Super Sounds’ Martin Sibanda of the Bakhuzeni fame is also expected to grace the event although he will not perform.
“Sibanda will not perform but will offer advice to up-and-coming musicians on how they can grow and flourish in their career,” added Moyo.
