MUTARE City Rovers fans believe that the club could not have asked for anything better than the list of fixtures released by the Premier Soccer League early this week.
The Premier Soccer League has released the fixtures for the upcoming 2016 league season.
The league is set to kick off in the first week of April, with Magusha, as Mutare City Rovers are fondly referred to, hosting fellow new entrants Ngezi Platinum before travelling to the capital for a date against fellow municipality outfit, Harare City.
The Kenny Kachara-coached team will return to Sakubva Stadium in the third week of the season to face Harare giants, Dynamos – the only club among the big three that they will face in the first nine matches of the season.
Desire Dube of Sakubva said Mutare City Rovers would certainly not have the pressure of hosting the feared three clubs – Dynamos, Highlanders and CAPS United – so early in the season.
“I think Mutare City Rovers could not have asked for anything better than what they got. The fixtures are quite good for us in that we will not have the pressure of hosting the feared three clubs – Dynamos, Highlanders and CAPS United – so early in the season.
“Playing clubs such as Dynamos, Highlanders and CAPS United so early in the season is that if we lose those matches that will have a bearing on our morale,” he said.
Charity Sithole of Chikanga was of the opinion that hosting Ngezi Platinum on the first match of the season gives the club an opportunity to have hope for three points on the first day of the season.
“Positive results from the first match of the season will boost the players’ confidence. The fact that we will host Ngezi Platinum on the first day of the season gives us hope that we will get maximum points from that match.
“We are not saying it will be a walkover against Ngezi Platinum, but we are all new to the Premiership and for us playing at home give us an advantage over them. We really hope to use that home advantage to get three points and move forward with confidence,” she said.
Chamunorwa Sigauke of Palmerstone argued that playing against teams such as Ngezi Platinum and Border Strikers in the first and last five matches of the season gives them the hope for better results.
“Playing against teams such as Ngezi Platinum and Border Strikers in the first and last five matches of the season gives us the hope for better results because the first five matches are important in boosting confidence while the last five are always important when it comes to relegation dogfight,” he said.
Meanwhile, according to the fixtures released by PSL early this week, the “Battle of Zimbabwe” between Dynamos and Highlanders will take place in Week Eight ,while the Harare derby between Dynamos and CAPS United is set for Week Four.
