A 36-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested in Harare after producing a fake Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) identification card.
He was threatening Government officials at their offices.
A bogus policeman was also nabbed.
The two are now assisting police with investigations and will appear in court soon.
National police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the arrests.
“Mark Jack, 36, was arrested in the Kopje area on Monday for impersonating an OPC official.
“The suspect allegedly produced a fake OPC ID while threatening Government officials at their offices,” Asst Comm Nyathi said.
The bogus policeman is alleged to have been extorting money from unsuspecting members of the public.
“On December 6, police in Zvishavane arrested Farai Moyo, 29, for impersonation after he was found wearing a police uniform at Mandava Business Centre.
“Investigations are in progress,” Ass Comm Nyathi said.
Meanwhile, members of the public have been warned against name-dropping of senior government officials to dupe the public, extort money and commit other crimes.
Recently, two bogus policemen extorted thousands of US dollars from motorists they accused of violating road traffic rules.
The two were arrested and police are still hunting for three of their accomplices, who include a woman.
The two are former policemen.
They are Kabinara Frazer Chengetai, 38, of Unit O, Seke in Chitungwiza, who was discharged from the police service in 2009 for being unsuitable for duty, and Shelton Chingwecha, 33, of New Zengeza 5 in Chitungwiza.
