SELY-STYLED Chipinge prophet, Madzibaba Washington Dzingirai (22), together with his two accomplices were last week left with egg on their faces after being unmasked for stage-managing miracles.

Popularly known as Commando for his fake miracles, Dzingirai was arrested together with Learnmore Musase (19) and Patricia Tauya (42) of Epworth after their fake miracle bid to catch a flying witch in Usanga suburb was exposed.

Dzingirai’s shrine, which is located close to Chipinge Country Club, was now popular as residents thronged the place seeking his services.

Residents were bemused as the trio admitted that they had connived to stage-manage miracles.

The trio took law enforcement agents for indications in the town.

It emerged that Dzingirai, working in cohorts with Patricia Tauya, stage-managed a witchcraft act in which the later walked on the streets while stark naked.

In the script, Patricia, who was in her birthday suit, would act as if she had crush-landed in Chipinge while flying from Mozambique to Masvingo.

The Weekender was present when Dzingirai was taken for indications by the police.

Dzingirai said they hatched the plan to pretend to have spiritual powers on October 2.

“I instructed my colleague, Musase, to call Patricia who resides in Domboramwari, Epworth, to come to Chipinge and join us in executing the plan. Patricia arrived in Chipinge on October 3. We rehearsed the whole drama for three days.

“On October 6, Musase escorted Patricia to Usanga suburb and instructed her to remove all her clothes. Musase left her in the bush near Kabanga Dam Bridge. I was communicating with Musase who was giving me all the updates and Patricia’s movements,’’ said Dzingirai.

He said soon after sunset, Patricia began executing their plan by walking in her birthday suit towards Usanga suburb.

“Upon arrival at a T-junction close to a house in the area, Patricia started screaming, thereby drawing the public’s attention. “A lot of people stormed the area to witness the drama. I also arrived at the scene and performed some rituals, while telling the growing public that my radar was behind Patricia’s crush-landing,” said Dzingirai.

However, curious onlookers questioned the whole drama as they believed that it was too early for a witch to be out on an errand.

This prompted the police to probe the act and the long arm of the law finally caught up with the trio.

They were arrested on criminal nuisance charges and were each fined $2 000 at Chipinge Police Station.

Chipinge prosecutor, Mr Timothy Katsande who perused the docket and referred the case back to the police said: Police investigations revealed that Dzingirai used a Honda fit vehicle to travel to the scene and upon arrival, about 50 people had gathered.

He pretended to be under the influence of the Holy Spirit and laid his hands on the naked Patricia’s body and instructed her to run to his shrine.

Sergeant Chananda interrogated the accused persons at their shrine and they revealed that they had stage-managed “miracles” on different occasions in Chipinge town.

The investigation officers managed to recover a counter book that had their schedule for fake prophesies.

Some of the fake events which were lined up were written: ‘Kumutsa zvitunha, Kunamira mukadzi nemurume tozovarapa, kuita maroadshows tichibata varoyi kwaChecheche.’
