A HARARE man, who duped a former member of Kapfupi’s band while masquerading as sangoma Sekuru Tasvu, escaped jail when he was handed a wholly suspended three-month sentence.
Kudakwashe Gamunorwa, 26, of no fixed abode, was found guilty by a Harare Magistrates and slapped with a three-month jail sentence.
However, the entire jail term was suspended on condition he doesn’t commit a similar offence.
Gamunorwa was claiming he was Sekuru Tasvu, who runs the Sekuru Tasvu TV online channel.
The court heard that on September 13, at Kambuzuma Section 2 Shops in Harare, Gamunorwa misrepresented to the complainant, Patrick Masango, 37, that he was a traditional healer known as Sekuru Tasvu. Masango is a former band member of Kapfupi’s group.
Masango claimed that Gamunorwa promised to solve all his problems in exchange for a payment of US$45. Gamunorwa then switched off his cell phone shortly after receiving the money.
Masango then got in touch with the real Sekuru Tasvu who invited him to a healing session at his shrine in Marlbereign.
Gamunorwa was arrested in Kambuzuma.
