Prominent businessman and philanthropist Dr Kudakwashe Tagwirei has raised the alarm over a growing number of fake social media accounts falsely operating in his name.
In a statement, Dr Tagwirei, through the Sakunda Public Relations Department, said he currently has no official presence on any social media platform, including X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, or YouTube.
“We wish to alert the public that Dr Kudakwashe Tagwirei is not on any social media platforms at this time,” reads the statement.
“He does not own, operate or control any accounts on X, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube or any other platform.”
Dr Tagwirei said impostor accounts are being used to spread false information and, in some cases, scam unsuspecting individuals out of their money.
“These pages are being used to spread false information and, in some cases, scam people. We strongly warn the public not to engage with or trust any of these accounts.”
The statement further confirmed that Dr Tagwirei is in the process of launching official verified accounts across major platforms and will make an announcement through trusted channels once they are live.
“In the meantime, if you come across any pages pretending to be Dr Kudakwashe Tagwirei, please report immediately to the respective platforms for impersonation and fraud,” reads the statement.
Supporters and the general public have been encouraged to stay vigilant and help report such fake pages to curb the spread of misinformation and protect the public from online scams.
The alert comes at a time when impersonators on social media are increasingly targeting Zimbabwean public figures and officials.
