FALCON College carried their brilliant pre-second term form into the season when they produced a dominant display to beat visiting Prince Edward High School in a schools rugby fixture played at Esigodini yesterday.

It was a match featuring the in-form teams in Zimbabweans schools rugby but Falcon were on top of the situation for most parts of the contest. PE were confined to their own half for the first five minutes where they struggled to get their hands on the ball as Falcon starved them of possession.

The Falcon Mad Dogs outscored the PE Tigers by six tries to two to remain unbeaten while for the visitors it was their first defeat on the local scene. Falcon converted five of the tries, all the kicks at goal taken by flyhalf Benjamin Meredith who also weighed in with a penalty goal while PE added the extra two points from two of their tries.

It was Meredith who gave Falcon the lead with a penalty goal early into the encounter. Tries from winger Sam Phiri, skipper Connor Pritchard, tighthead prop Cleopas Kundiona and loosehead prop Ackim Sibanda with three of those tries converted by Meredith were testimony of the home’s side dominance in the first half. PE managed one try scored by left winger Russell Dinha which was converted by number 10 Tinotenda Savanhu. The visitors’ cause was not helped by the loss of their captain Kudakwashe Ndoro who limped off early into the match with what appeared to be a foot injury.

PE were the first to get on the scoreboard in the second half with outside centre Shingirai Katsvere planting the ball over the line, the conversion kick booted in by Savanhu.

Phiri stretched the Falcon lead with his second try of the match whose conversion from Meredith sailed between the posts.

Inside centre Adrian Zvaravashe picked up the third try for PE, the conversion missed by Savanhu.

Hooker Brian Muntanga killed off the match as a contest when he went over just before the end, Meredith’s successful conversion making it 43-19 to Falcon and that is how the contest ended.

Falcon’s fine season looks is set to continue when they face off against Christian Brothers College in a Matabeleland trials match at Hartsfield Rugby Ground on Saturday while PE take on Churchill in the Harare trials on the same day.

In other schools matches played all over the country yesterday, Midlands Christian College clobbered Gateway 71-0, Milton won 52-7 over Goldridge, Eaglesvale picked up a 41-17 triumph over Petra in Bulawayo, Lomagundi beat Hellenic 36-17, Watershed defeated Vainona 27-10, Churchill were 27-17 victorious over Kyle College, Hillcrest recorded a 69-24 win over Heritage, Peterhouse and St John’s College drew 7-7 while St George’s College drubbed CBC 84-3.
