False accident report lands businessman in trouble

the motive behind the false report in which Cheteni had claimed that two people died in the accident.
Insp Chademana said Cheteni, who owns a fleet of commuter omnibuses servicing the City-Mkoba route, went to the Gweru Central Police Station on Thursday in tears.
He said when the police officers asked him what was the problem, he said two male adults known to him had been involved in an accident at the 45km peg along the Gweru-Kwekwe Road.
“When Cheteni visited the charge office he was sobbing and gave a report that two white male adults had just been involved in a serious road accident along the Gweru-Kwekwe Road,” said Insp Chademana.
“Police who attended the scene were then told by the driver of the vehicle, which was said to have involved in an accident, a Toyota Platz, that the two injured had just been ferried to Avenues Clinic in Harare by a Good Samaritan.”
Insp Chademana said Cheteni and the driver of the Toyota car, one Cliff Muza, later provided the police with contact details of the “Good Samaritan” who was said to have taken the injured two to the hospital. “The Good Samaritan in turn gave the police other contact numbers, which he claimed belonged to a doctor who was attending to the two accident victims at Avenues Clinic,” he said.
Insp Chademana said the “doctor” then indicated to the police officers who were investigating the accident case that the two had died on admission to Avenues Clinic.
“It then turned out to be a farce when the same police officers travelled all the way to Avenues Clinic intending to identify the two people who were said to have died in the accident,” he said.
Insp Chademana said the “doctor” who spoke to them over the phone was nowhere to be found and officials at the Avenues Clinic denied having admitted such people.
He said Cheteni was assisting police with investigations.
“The motive is yet to be established as to why Cheteni and the other suspects gave the police a false report. Police have also launched a manhunt for the pseudo doctor and the driver of the Toyota Platz, Cliff Muza, of number 37 Zaranyika Road, Mambo,” said Insp Chademana.
“The car which is now with the police and was said to have overturned following the accident has some minor dents on its right side. There are no indications that it was involved in a serious accident.”
