THE trial of former Foreign Affairs Minister Walter Mzembi, which was scheduled to start on Tuesday before High Court Judge Justice Benjamin Chikowero, has been postponed to a later date.

The judge could not handle the matter due to administrative issues, hence he moved the matter to January 28, 30 and February 3.

Mzembi is facing charges of theft of trust property and criminal abuse of office. He has been in remand since July last year after confirmation of warrants were issued against him following his failure to appear in court since November 2018.

The former Cabinet Minister is accused of failing to return his passport by November 19, 2018, and missing a court appearance on January 18, 2019.

The charges stem from allegations that he converted televisions worth US$2 million purchased for fan parks during the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa to personal use while serving as Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry.
