The trial of two former Seke Teachers College students and employees who reportedly defrauded the institution of over $4 000 failed to kick off yesterday after one of the accused did not turn up. Chipo Ndiraya (39) and Sophia Kandeya (31) appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Oliver Mudzongachiso together with Maxwell Dziva on fraud charges. A warrant of arrest was issued against Kennedy White who did not turn up.
The trial will continue on July 15.
Initially, the four, who are out on bail, pleaded not guilty to the offence.
Prosecuting, Mr Edmond Ndambakuwa alleged that sometime in April, Ndiraya and Kandeya connived with Dziva and White to give them fake invoices for their outstanding fees of $2 426 and $1 843 respectively, which they used to collect their results. Mr Ndambakuwa further alleged that on May 28, the college principal Mr Newton Mutubuki was informed by the college’s vice principal Mrs Dube and Vengai Kudzedzereka that Ndiraya and Kandeya used counterfeit end of course clearance forms in collecting their diplomas. Mr Mutubuki then reported the case to the police.
