A NKAYI family is appealing for financial assistance to raise $5 000 for its six-year-old daughter to undergo an operation to remove a brain tumour in Harare. Ms Eunah Kamashu, said her daughter, Nozipho Ncube, a Grade One pupil, started complaining of persistent headaches in March and her condition worsened until they took her to St Luke’s Hospital in Lupane.
She was later transferred to Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo.
“When we got to Mpilo they said she had a brain tumour and recommended that we take her to Parirenyatwa Hospital to have the tumour removed as Mpilo do not have facilities to carry out such an operation,’’ said Ms Kamashu.
She said at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals they were charged $700 for the operation but the operation was not done and Nozipho was discharged after being admitted for two months and her condition had worsened.
In an interview Nozipho’s grandmother, Mrs Filipina Ncube said after failing to get any meaningful help from Parirenyatwa they visited Avenues Clinic for help and they were told that the operation could be done at a cost of $5 000.
She said Nozipho’s condition has since deteriorated and is now partly paralysed and cannot walk or talk properly.
Ms Kamashu said she is unemployed and her husband is a student nurse so they cannot raise the required amount.
