A FAMILY from Southlea Park lost over US$11,000 while attending a church service on Sunday.

Mcrollen Mabaya, 55, returned with her family at around 3pm and found out that their house had been ransacked.

The Mabaya family left their home securely locked at 8am the same day to attend a church service.

She lost US$11,300, which had been hidden in her wardrobe.

Her daughter also lost US$76 which had been hidden in a bible, which was stashed under a mattress.

Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the theft.

“We are investigating this unlawful entry and theft case in Southlea Park,” he said.

“Worshippers should consider leaving trusted individuals in their homes, especially during this festive season, when many are attending services.

“Avoid keeping large amounts of cash in your homes.”
