THE family of DRD Luxury Coaches driver, Zano Nyamukondiwa, who was among the 17 people who died in an accident in Murehwa on Tuesday, is appealing for financial assistance.

The bus, which was travelling from Cape Town to Malawi, veered off the road near Suswe at the 167 km peg along the Harare-Nyamapanda highway around 1pm, killing 14 passengers on the spot and injuring many others.

Three other people died on admission to the hospital. The late Nyamukondiwa’s younger brother, Blessing Mutize, said his brother left behind a wife and six children, who are now facing an uncertain future.

He said four of the children are studying in Zimbabwe and two in South Africa, of which one is at tertiary level.

“All his children are still in school and since he is no more, it will be very difficult for the family to move on,” he said.

“We are appealing to the Government and well-wishers to assist with school fees, food, and other donations necessary to sustain the family.”

Nyamukondiwa’s widow, Sarah Chikwepe, stressed the need for support to keep her children in school.

“School fees is the biggest challenge. All six children need support, and without help, their future is at risk,” she said.

“We are asking for assistance not only with education but also with food and basic needs to survive.”
