Anna Mazhata (46) was coming from their shop with her brother Zvidzai (25) on Saturday at around 7pm when they were accosted by four armed men who demanded money before forcing them to unlock the door to the house.
They were led to the bedroom where they were forced to lie down and tied up with shoe laces. Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara confirmed the robbery adding that investigations were still in progress.
“Police in Kadoma are investigating a case in which a woman and her brother were ambushed by a gang of four men as they arrived at their house and robbed them of US$10 000,” he said.
The men demanded money and threatened to shoot them if they refused to yield. They searched the woman’s handbag and took US$315 and four cellphones while the other two were guarding Zvidzai. They also searched him and took away US$120 and a Samsung cellphone from his pockets. They then used duplicate keys to open a safe and took US$10 000 and R400.
The gang locked the two inside the house and disappeared into the night. However, they later managed to call the police using a land line. Police immediately attended the scene but no recoveries or arrests have been made as yet.
