A SOUTHLEY Park family was terrorised by a group of five armed robbers on Saturday and lost more than US$22,000.
Callistus Chinhemba, 54, and his two children were tied up by the five armed robbers who struck at midnight.
Callistus is a businessman in the Southley Park area where his businesses include some butcheries.
Callistus was awoken by a banging sound and cocked his pistol and moved towards the main door. He was confronted by five armed men.
He was disarmed and they demanded cash.
He surrendered US$2,000 which was in his jacket.
The robbers harassed his family and searched the bedroom and found a safe which had US$20,000.
They took the safe away after failing to open it.
Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed the case.
“Police are investigating an armed robbery case in Southley Park.
“The armed robbers went away with a cash safe after failing to get the pin code, which is only known by the complainant’s wife.
“The total value stolen is US$22,040 and nothing was recovered,” said Insp Chakanza.
