Afro-pop and soul music lovers in Bulawayo are craving more live performances, as the city has seen a scarcity of gigs catering to their taste. Now, they are calling on Bulawayo’s “Prince of Soul”, Mncedisi “MJ Sings” Ncube, to make a comeback and revive his signature “One Man Show” concerts, which were a highlight during his peak years.
Fans took to social media to express their longing for MJ Sings’ live performances, urging him to return with high-quality shows and new music.
The Wangithembisa Nami hit-maker admitted he was both surprised and honoured by the overwhelming demand for his return, seeing it as proof of his brand’s lasting impact on the local music scene.
“It’s incredible to see fans running a petition and asking me to bring back these gigs. I believe it’s nostalgia from watching past performances and videos of our previous shows. My absence from live concerts recently might have also contributed to the demand,” said MJ Sings.
He acknowledged the pressure to deliver something special but assured fans that discussions were already underway to bring the show back.
“I’ve received calls from interested promoters, and if all goes according to plan, we could stage a special One Man Show as early as April,” he revealed.
Reflecting on his recent focus, MJ Sings explained that 2024 was dedicated to studio work, which is now bearing fruit.
“I spent much of last year in the studio, working on projects that I’ve started rolling out. Songs like Low-key and Temper are already performing well on the charts and in the streets.
“This year, I’ll be unveiling more of my work, including some exciting collaborations with Zimbabwean and international artistes. Fans can also expect more live performances, as my team and I are making that a priority,” he added.
With anticipation building, it seems MJ Sings’ return to the stage could be just around the corner.
