Fans fight in Chibadura corner over World Cup beat

Paidamoyo Bore

LAST week we ran a story of John Chibadura’s iconic beat being used as a soundtrack in SuperSport’s coverage of the 2022 World Cup finals.

The beat is usually heard when SuperSport switches from the conversation into their studios.

The late Chibadura’s family believe that the beat belonged to the legendary musician and are in the process of lodging a complaint through ZIMURA.

l Below are some of the comments from our readers:

This guy was really a legend. How he defined reggae with his instruments, before technology, was amazing. Even up to now it sounds like it’s yesterday. It’s very unfortunate with the technology nowadays, maybe, to try and win the case but I think the issue is with the broadcaster SuperSport not FIFA. SuperSport must explain. – Star King.

Surely it sounds the same. I am proud if it is the one but at the same time disappointed because they didn’t not respect the rights.  – Kendrick.

The beat is slightly different from our own legend. I don’t think it’s Chibadura’s. But if it is the one, he deserves hats off. – Victor Chada.
