Farai Musariyarwa U-17 soccer tourney explodes

FIRST round matches of the Farai Musariyarwa Under-17 knock-out soccer tournament gets underway tomorrow at various venues in high-density suburbs across Mutare. Safa, Sheckon Stars, P Stars, defending champions, La Sakubva, Zim Leopards, City Velloes, Golden Scissors, Mutare Stars, City Strikers, Mango Stars, Faith Drive, Wagos Bullets and Barrons make up the list of teams that will partake in the competition.La Sakubva has won the previous two editions of the tournament.

In an interview, tournament financier, Farai Musariyarwa, said all was set for the start of the tournament in which participating clubs would play home and away matches ahead of the finals that will be played at Sakubva Stadium on a date to be announced.

“The tournament will be played on a knock-out format and all is set for the first round matches that will be played tomorrow (Saturday). The clubs are now all aware of the rules and regulation governing the tournament.

“Playing times shall be 70 minutes for a match. We have made it clear that we expect teams to be disciplined and punctual. List of 18 players per team must be submitted before kickoff together with player’s identity documents and league licence. The referees shall be appointed by the referees committee,” said Musariyarwa.

Safa will engage Sheckon Stars at Mutanda Primary School in the sprawling suburb of Sakubva, while Barrons will battle it out against La Sakubva at Nyamauru High School in Dangamvura.

Zim Leopards take on P Stars at St Joseph’s High School in Chikanga Phase Three, while Wagos entertain Golden Stars at Mahidha Ground (NRZ).

Golden Scissors play City Strikers in Hob House, while Mango Stars face Tafara City Velloes at Dangamvura Beit Hall Ground.

Mutare Stars lock horns with Faith Drive at Chikanga Sports Field.

Individual and team prizes will be in the form of soccer kits, balls, T-shirts, training equipment, food hampers and cash for outstanding performers.
