Farm manager on US$6 000 theft rap

Court Reporter
Former Zanu-PF councillor for Manyame Rural District Council Clever Manhombo reportedly lost his property worth more than US$6 000 to his farm manager. The manager, Bamusi Mutandagayi, reportedly relocated to a farm near Marondera with some property belonging Cllr Manhombo (64).

This was after Cllr Manhombo, who owns Plot 1A, Potrugal Farm in Beatrice, gave some food rations to Mutandagayi to distribute to his employees.

The incident occurred on October 18 when Mutandagayi reportedly received the food rations, including cooking oil, soap and salt and was also issued with salaries for other employees so that he could distribute the money.

Mutandagayi disappeared with some of the goods and part of the workers’ salaries.

Cllr Manhombo then drove back to Harare where he spent two days and returned to the farm on the third day.

Upon arrival, Manhombo was surprised to see his manager gone with all his belongings, including the farm records and some of his property.

Prosecutor Mr Tendai Mukariri further alleged that Cllr Manhombo tried in vain to locate him. Later on, the court heard that Manhombo discovered that Mutandagayi was now working at a farm near Marondera.

The matter was reported to the police.

Appearing before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Lazarus Murendo, Mutangagayi denied charges of theft of trust property.

He was remanded to January 8 for trial on US$50 bail.
