Farmer wins

A Guruve communal farmer Ms Nyasha Chamwazhika yesterday scooped the Best Small Scale Farmer of the Year award and walked away with a 75 horsepower tractor at the Harare Agricultural Show.
Southern Regional Trading Company donated the tractor that the 26-year-old woman won.

Ms Chamwazhika grows sunflower, beans, maize, tobacco, groundnuts and sweet potatoes, among other crops and is also into gardening.

“I am so happy to win this tractor. I have been relying on ox-drawn ploughs for tillage but now I can use the tractor. This makes the work easier and more efficient. I thank President Mugabe for his stance on agriculture. I have been farming for the past 18 years and today I felt I have been rewarded. I do not have a big farm but I fully utilise the nearly 7 hectares I have,” she said.

Mrs Chamwazhika said she depends on agronomic advice from extension officers.

“I am an experienced farmer but I always ask for advice from Agritex extension officers.”
