Farmers urged to embrace innovation for agricultural growth

DEPUTY Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Vangelis Haritatos has emphasised agriculture’s critical role in transforming Zimbabwe into a prosperous nation.

He urged farmers to adopt innovative practices, focus on market-driven approaches, and prioritise sustainability.
Speaking at a Charter Seeds field day, Deputy Minister Haritatos highlighted the Government’s commitment to the Agriculture and Food Systems Rural

Transformation Strategy 2, aiming to build a $15,8 billion industry by 2030.

“We’re moving from food security to food sovereignty, controlling our food system from seed to market,” said Deputy Minister Haritatos.

The Government is investing in irrigation, mechanisation, and village business units to support farmers.

Deputy Minister Haritatos called on farmers to be students, businesspeople, guardians, and ambassadors, sharing knowledge to drive growth.

“The seed we plant today determines the harvest we will reap tomorrow,” he said, emphasising quality genetics and data-driven decisions.
