Fashion designer reflects on career

United Kingdom but was born in Zimbabwe, is currently in the country marketing her latest designs.
The successful designer – who owns a fashion studio in Dagenham, where she showcases her works – has been nominated for the Zimbabwe Achievers Award in the Fashion Designer of the Year category.

A nurse by profession, Mubwanda said she opted for fashion designing because it was her passion.
“I chose designing because that was my dream since I was a young girl and I just wanted to follow my dream,” she said.
She has designed clothes that have been used in several pageants, which include Miss Zimbabwe and Miss African Spirit among others.

The vivacious Mubwanda says renowned designer Kate Moss inspired her to take up designing as a profession.
Mubwanda said her vision was to become one of the top designers in the world.

“I want to become a force to reckon with in the designing industry. I want my clothes to be worn by people the world over,” she said.
Mubwanda, who has been a designer for over two decades, advised upcoming designers to work hard and strive to make quality designs.
“I urge fellow designers to take their time when they are making designs and to work hard to fulfil their dreams,” she said.

She has held fashion shows in several parts of the world and her biggest break came when she held an exhibition at O2 arena in United Kingdom and she has not looked back ever since.
Mubwanda was born in Harare and she did her primary education at Haig Park Primary School in Mabelreign.

She then proceeded to Mutare Girls’ High where she did her secondary education.
Mubwanda is a holder of several qualifications, which include a nursing diploma in mental health and another diploma in fashion and designing from Kushinga Phikilela Institute, among other qualifications.

Mubwanda is also the managing director of African Queen Designs and the chief executive officer of Leamar Event and Décor, a management consultancy company.
She met up with a number of local designers at a cocktail held at a hotel in Harare recently.
