THE battle of the Style Icons of the year at this year’s Matabeleland Fashion Week (MFW) is a repeat of last year’s as Mbo Mahocs, Gilmore Tee and Craig Zoowie make a comeback in the female and male categories respectively.

The 2nd edition of MFW running under the theme ‘Promoting Economic Development Through Fashion, will start on Thursday and end on Saturday at Fazak Home and Hyper in Woodlands, Bulawayo.

Last year Gilmore Tee and Mbo Mahocs won the Style Icons of the year in the male and female categories.

This year the two are back and are joined by Zimbabwe Fashion Week Best Dressed Male, Welshman Sibanda, fashion designer Trish Carmen who has dressed Oliver Mtukudzi, Victor Kunonga and MJ from Generations and catwalk expert Brenda Muparadzi in their respective categories.

The winner will be voted for by fans on the MFW media pages Twitter and Facebook.

The brains behind the MFW Amanda Mtangadura said people have started voting for their favourite style Icons on social media.

“Fashion enthusiasts and the public in general are already voting on social media. They can go to our Facebook page Matabeleland Fashion Week 2015 and inbox their candidate, or email us at [email protected] or they can send them to our twitter handle @MatFashionWeek with the hash tag #MatFW2015,” she said.

Mtangadura said the two categories were drawing the most interest as the contestants had made names for themselves in the Zimbabwean fashion industry.

“These categories are really interesting as we’ve some of the city’s best male and female style icons going head-to-head. All these individuals are relevant in Zimbabwe’s fashion industry as they have their own unique style and we only hope for the best to win,” she said.

She said like last year the last public voting category at the launch was the Outstanding Photographer where there are three nominees.

“The final three nominees for Outstanding Photographers are Le Cyril Photography (Cyril Ncube), Michele Fartman Photography and Roe Photos. Fans can vote on the social media pages for their favourite photographer,” said Mtangadura.
