THE inaugural edition of the Wakanaka Fashion Show made a huge impression, setting the runway ablaze and giving young designers and models a chance to shine.

More than 50 fashion enthusiasts made it to Akeelah Gardens in Hillside, Harare, on Saturday for the three-part event, which showcased flannel, denim and vintage designs.

The event attracted the who’s who of Harare, including the newly-crowned Miss UZ, Karen Katsande and former Mr Prince Zimbabwe, Dhyaan Kumar.

Event organiser, Evidence Nyahonde (23), said the show will benefit upcoming designers and models.

“I am so happy to give young and upcoming models and designers a chance to shine, the Wakanaka Fashion Show is a great deal and many thanks to everyone who showed up.

“We have so far helped at least 15 models to launch their careers and with more time we will impact on as many as we can,” said Nyahonde.

He says he thrives for a perfect harmony between fashion and talent identification.

“This is a platform for all young people to come together and partner for one cause.

“We hope to improve on a number of things in our next edition so that we attract a huge crowd and sponsors,” said Nyahonde.

The event also gave a chance to upcoming music stars, who performed at the show.

The Wakanaka Fashion Show was founded by Nyahonde aka Charis Light to advocate, support and provide a platform for young designers and models.

Its goal is to build creative fashion projects to raise money for non-profit organisations who are making a difference in the communities.
