A 43-YEAR-OLD Mount Darwin man was arrested at the weekend for allegedly raping his 10-year-old daughter. Acting Mashonaland Central police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Petros Masikati confirmed the incident which happened sometime in August this year.“We arrested a man on Saturday who raped his daughter while her mother was in Harare. He is in custody assisting us with investigations,” he said.
It is alleged that sometime last month at around 11pm, the girl was sleeping in her bedroom with her two younger brothers aged six and seven. The man is alleged to have proceeded to the girl’s bedroom where he sneaked into her blankets and raped her once before threatening her against telling anyone about the incident.
The matter came to light when the girl’s mother returned from Harare and found the girl limping which prompted her to ask what had happened.
The girl told her mother about the rape and a report was made at Mt Darwin police station leading to the man’s arrest.
Asst Insp Masikati appealed to parents and guardians not to leave their children especially girls in the custody of males as cases of rape are on the increase.
