A 52-YEAR-OLD man from Dzivaresekwa, Harare, appeared in court yesterday facing charges of murdering his biological son during a family dispute over US$1.
The accused, Tinei Katsiru, was charged with murder before Harare provincial magistrate Mr Tapiwa Kuhudzai, who remanded him in custody to August 27.
He was advised to approach the High Court for bail.
According to prosecutor Ms Nomsa Kangara, the tragic incident occurred on Tuesday at around 7.:30pm at 107/A Mudyiwa Street, Dzivaresekwa 1.
The accused allegedly stabbed his son, Clive Kudzaishe Katsiru, with an okapi knife following an altercation.
The altercation began when Clive was assaulting his younger brother, Denias Katsiru, who is visually impaired.
Denias had lent Clive US$1 and the argument escalated when the father attempted to intervene and stop the assault.
Heated words ensued between the father and son, which culminated in the father stabbing Clive in the stomach.
He bled profusely from the wound and was rushed to Parirenyatwa Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The police confirmed that several family members, including Alicia Katsiru, Memory Sopo, Denias Katsiru and Shalom Katsiru, witnessed the stabbing incident.
Authorities recovered the knife used in the attack, along with bloodstained clothing belonging to the accused.
A post-mortem revealed that Clive succumbed to injuries sustained in the stabbing.
