AN EPWORTH man yesterday appeared in court for allegedly raping his teen daughter, who had been left under his care, by the mother.

The father (name withheld) aged 39, was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda, who remanded him in custody to July 6.

He was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

The court heard that on May 31 this year, the child’s mother went to church and left her daughter with her father, together with her brother, aged nine.

The court heard that the father returned home and was served food by his daughter.

After that, he told the minor child that he wanted to sleep with her and he went to her bed and raped her.

The father allegedly threatened to kill his daughter if she disclosed the matter to her mother, which she did, leading to his arrest.

Anesu Chirenje appeared for the State.
