AN 18-year-old boy from Braeside has taken his father to the Harare Civil Court for failing to pay maintenance.
Mandla Dimba is asking his father, Christopher Dimba, to pay school fees and give him US$90 for food.
“He has not been paying fees, my mother is the one who has been catering for my upkeep,” said Mandla.
However, the older Dimba refuses to pay maintenance, saying that his son was already 18-years-old and that he could not afford to pay.
He said Mandla had been expelled from school after impregnating a girl and was now trying to shift the responsibility to him.
“He is 18 years and must have finished school last year. I am afraid he wants to channel the maintenance to his child.
“I cannot pay maintenance for him and his child. I am a driver, I earn US$140, where do I get US$900 for his fees.
“Arikuda ndibhadharire mwana wake maintenance ini. He became a father because he was emancipated,” said Dimba.
Mandla denied being expelled from school and provided proof to show he was still enrolled at the school and the arrears he owed the school.
The matter was remanded to Friday for ruling, and Mandla was told to bring a receipt with the school head’s stamp.
