A RUSAPE man with an insatiable appetite for raping his own daughters was at it again after he raped and impregnated his 19-year-old daughter barely a year after serving a 12-year jail term for raping another daughter. The 45-year-old rape convict who could not be identified as this automatically exposes the victim appeared before Mr Livingstone Chipadza.
He denied the charges. He was however found guilty after a full trial and was sentenced to 20 years behind bars. Rusape Area Prosecutor Mr Tirivanhu Mutyasira told court that the father raped his daughter at knife point and threatened to kill her and her mother if they divulged the incident.
“On 27 February 2015 the victim and her brother together with their father were left at home while her mother went to the bush to fetch firewood. The accused called the victim to his bedroom to assist him to plug in a radio, she complied.
“After she had finished plugging in the radio the accused asked her daughter to have sexual intercourse with him but she refused saying it is a taboo for them to have sex. The girl told her father that she would tell her mother and report to police if that happened. The accused threatened to chase the victim and her mother away if she reported to anyone. The father pulled a small knife from his pocket and proceeded to rape her daughter.
“The girl’s mother came back from the bush and victim disclosed the case to her. The father came back home drunk around 7pm and the victim’s mother asked the accused about the case and he became violent and started shouting and beating them with open hands. He then chased them out of the house and they slept outside overnight.”
When the girl discovered that she was pregnant she told her father that he was responsible and he threatened her with death. The victim’s mother did not take any action. The girl reported the matter to police on 12 August 2015 leading to the arrest of his father.
Asked by Mr Chipadza why he was in the habit of raping his own daughters, he said some evil spirits were troubling him. In an unrelated matter a Buhera uncle-cum-stepfather who raped and impregnated his late brother’s 15-year-old daughter was slapped with a 30 year jail term.
Forty year-old man Timothy Mangwava will however serve 20 years behind bars after Mr Chipadza suspended 10 years on conditions of good behaviour. Mangwava inherited the mother of the victim from his late brother.
State prosecutor Mr Tirivanhu Mutyasira told the court that Mangwava, on several occasions, sneaked in the girl’s room and sexually abused her before threatening her with assault.
“The offence only came to light when the complainant was now working as a housemaid in Mufakose when her employer Vivian Chikoka suspected that she was pregnant and quizzed her. She revealed the rape.
