CAPRI Appliances is facing legal action after a customer was injured by a faulty fridge door.
Rosalind Jean Austin’s lawyers have written to Capri Appliances demanding compensation of US$25 000 due to injuries sustained when the fridge door fell on her a year after purchasing the appliance.
In the letter, the lawyers stated that the Consumer Protection Act and the Standards Association of Zimbabwe place an obligation on the company to provide goods and services that are safe and free of defects.
The lawyers stated that Austin purchased a Capri fridge on September 9, 2022.
“While still under warranty, the very same fridge developed a faulty compressor. This was then repaired.
“After this, the same fridge then developed a porous leak from the dispenser then finally, on 1 November 2023, the door of the fridge collapsed, trampling Austin causing severe trauma, pain and suffering, shock and consequent physical injuries.
“Given the above due to incompetent workmanship, our client is entitled to damages in the form of US$25 000 for shock, trauma, future medical expenses, pain and suffering.”
Capri is yet to respond to the demand for compensation.
