THE international football friendly match between Chibuku Super Cup winners FC Platinum and Zambia’s Power Dynamos has been called off. Chido Chizondo, the platinum miners’ spokesperson, confirmed yesterday that Power Dynamos had requested the postponement.
FC Platinum wanted to use the match as part of their preparations for the Caf Confederation Cup preliminary round tie in which they face Kenyans Sofapaka in four weeks’ time.
“This is to advise that the international friendly pitting FC Platinum and Power Dynamos has been rescheduled to a later date. We have been requested to postpone by our Zambian counterparts owing to the congested calendar of activities in that country,” said Chizondo in a press release.
She said next Tuesday’s pending Zambian presidential elections were another reason why Power Dynamos opted not to travel to Zimbabwe.
They said movement was restricted as a result of that.
She said the match would have been a good barometer for them to gauge their preparations for the 2015 season.
“The match was an acid test for the two coaches Tennant Chilumba who coached FC Platinum in the first half of 2013 and Norman Mapeza who has had success in his short stint including the prestigious Chibuku Cup. The two teams will be competing in the same tournament next month,” said Chizondo.
She said a new date for the match would be announced soon.
