FC Platinum bounced back to their winning ways when they sent Chapungu packing at Mandava yesterday.
Former Hwange hitman Gift Mbweti scored the all-important goal in the 24th minute. A corner kick from the left by dribbling ace Hilary Bakacheza saw man of the match Ian Nekati out-jumping the Chapungu defence. The Harare-born player then flicked the ball to Mbweti who was unattended and his firm header flew past Roy Mazingi in goal for the airmen.
Chapungu then threw everything into the game especially in the second half forcing FC Platinum to defend as Allan Tavarwisa and experienced Tineyi Chitora causing all sorts of problems. The Pure Platinum Play twins Elvis and Kelvin Moyo, Raphael Muduviwa and Nekati were, however, outstanding in defence. It was also a match that saw Brett Amidu getting the nod to start his first premiership match. Amidu did not disappoint and he won many hearts from his passing and dribbling.
“It was a good game for us and we needed the victory badly. Chapungu came to us in the second half and we defended well. My guys were a bit nervous following our defeat at Ngezi last week. I am proud of my boys and we can now go for the break with smiles on our faces,” said an elated Mapeza.
His counterpart Tendai Chikuni felt the game was balanced.
“I also feel that the referee should have protected my players because I feel that it’s his duty,” he said.
