FC Platinum’s pre-season suffered a setback after their high-profile international friendly match against Zambian side Power Dynamos, scheduled for Mandava tomorrow, was cancelled. Club spokesperson Chido Chizondo said the match was cancelled because of reasons beyond their control. “This is to advise that the international friendly pitting FC Platinum and Power Dynamos has been rescheduled to a later date,” Chizondo said.

“We have been requested to postpone by our Zambian counterparts owing to the congested calendar of activities in that country, including the Presidential elections scheduled for Tuesday, since movement has been restricted.

“This match was an acid test for the two coaches Tennant Chilumba, who coached FC Platinum in the first half of the 2013 season and Norman Mapeza who has had success in his short stint, including winning the prestigious Chibuku Cup.

“The two teams will be competing in the same tournament next month. A new date will be announced in due course.”

FC Platinum have a date with Kenyan side Sofapaka over the weekend of February 13-15.

They started their pre-season training last week under the leadership of Mapeza.

The coach has kept faith in the bulk of the squad that featured for the team last season.

They only added Wellington Kamudyariwa, Brian Muzondiwa and Emmanuel Mandiranga to their squad after dropping Michelle Katsvairo, Talbert Shumba, Benjamin Marere and James Marufu.

Tarisai Rukanda, Ashley Mukwena, Stephen Sibanda and Winston Mhango will be assessed during pre-season.
