The Zvishavane club beat Zanaco who are preparing for the Caf Champions League 3-1 and Power Dynamos 3-0 in their backyards.
Mawere was however quick to warn the platinum family not to read too much into the victories as they were only preparations for the 2013 league championship.
“I am happy that we are in the right direction for the forthcoming season. The team is gelling well and we had not come here for victories but just to have practice matches in preparation for 2013. Winning against the best teams in Zambia is a great thing but we have to work hard and produce positive results in Zimbabwe.
“Since gaining promotion in 2011 our target was to lift the league championship and nothing has changed. We still need the league cup in our display cabinet and we will continue fighting until we are crowned champions especially this season because we are going to challenge for honours,” said Mawere.
The soft spoken president is looking for a change in a number of things for the Zvishavane community. He is looking forward to working with the community very well and also their neighbours, Shabanie Mine.
Last season the platinum miners loaned Shabanie Mine eight players and the move saw Shabanie finishing in fifth position. FC Platinum might be the team to beat this season judging by their performance over the weekend. The team offloaded 13 players and managed to sign five players with the rest coming from their junior structures.
Judging by the performance of the Zimbabwe Under-20 twins Kelvin and Elvis Moyo in Zambia, the recalled duo of Nelson Maziwisa and Raymond Sibanda, the team is destined for greater heights.
Three Zambians namely Frank Mlambo, Aaron Katebe and young Obi Chirwa who was signed from Kongola Bullets have been drafted into the team and their performance is just good.
The platinum miners also changed their coaching structure by bringing Tennant Chilumba to replace Rahman Gumbo. The Zambian who is respected so much in his country also drafted Anderson Phiri as one of his assistants and will be working with Tendai Chikuni
Chikuni was in charge following the sacking of Gumbo and he did well with the team and the combination of the three is likely to bring the desired results for the platinum family.
Highlanders missed the opportunity to lift the league cup last season and Kelvin Kaindu hopes 2013 will be his year. Dynamos would like to defend their title this season and FC Platinum would also want to land their hands on the cup and so will be the other 13 teams which makes the season to be full of thrills.
