A transfer tug-of-war could be brewing between FC Platinum and Hardrock FC after the Zvishavane giants demanded a staggering US$50,000 plus midfielder Junior Makunike for the services of highly-rated defender Nickson Nyasulu.

The bold response from FC Platinum has thrown the spotlight on one of the most talked-about potential domestic transfers of the season, with the platinum miners making it clear that they are not prepared to part ways with Nyasulu cheaply.

In a letter signed by FC Platinum general manager Collin Nikisi, the former league champions outlined the conditions under which they would be willing to release the defender to the ambitious Premiership outfit.

“We acknowledge your interest in our defender, Nickson Nyasulu. After careful consideration, the club is willing to sell the player under the following conditions: a transfer fee of US$50,000 and the inclusion of your player, Junior Makunike, as part of the deal,” read part of the correspondence.

The response is a strong indication of how highly FC Platinum value Nickson Nyasulu, who has emerged as one of the club’s dependable performers at the back.

For Hardrock, the pursuit of Nyasulu reflects the club’s growing ambitions. The league pacesetters have been one of the surprise packages of the 2026 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League campaign and appear determined to strengthen their squad as they push for silverware.

Yet FC Platinum’s demands could force Hardrock to think twice. Apart from the significant cash component, the proposed deal would also require them to surrender Junior Makunike, a midfielder who has played an important role in the team’s impressive run this season.

The proposed package has already sparked debate among football followers, with some viewing it as a fair valuation for an experienced defender, while others believe the asking price and player exchange make it a difficult proposition for Hardrock.b

What is certain is that FC Platinum have sent a clear message: if Hardrock want Nyasulu, they will have to pay a premium.

As the transfer window speculation intensifies, all eyes will now be on Hardrock’s next move. Whether they meet FC Platinum’s demands, negotiate a revised package, or walk away from the deal altogether could become one of the defining transfer stories of the season.-@FungaiMuderere
