ROGER Federer says the idea of breaking Jimmy Connor’s record number of ATP wins has not entered his thoughts after he arrived at the 1000 mark.Federer got to be simply the third player to achieve the milestone when he beat Milos Raonic 6-4 6-7 (2-7) 6-4 to take the Brisbane International title on Sunday.
Just Connors (1253) and Ivan Lendl (1071) have won more ATP matches than Federer and the 17-time amazing pummel champion is not enthralling the possibility of surpassing those two.
He said: “Never even thought about it, it’s not been a goal of mine to reach any of those guys.
“I know how well they’ve played over the years, how much they’ve played, and how successful they’ve played, but it’s not a goal of mine in any way.
“Clearly, at this point, I doubt that it’s going to happen, but you never know.”
Federer will be focusing now to win the Australian Open, which will start next week, for the first time in five years. — STAR AFRICA.
