FEEL THEM, THE SCOTTS ARE RIGHT IN THE MIX

YOU can call it proper investment.

For the second successive match, a mid-season signing earned Scottland maximum points in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match.

Super-sub Khuda Myaba grabbed the match winner against Bikita Minerals at Gibbo yesterday.

The Malawi international striker headed home a corner in the 69th minute to give Scottland a hard-fought 1-0 win over a decent Bikita Minerals to help the Mabvuku side move to within three points of leaders, Simba Bhora.

“For the Scottland fans, there is more to come. This is my first goal and I will be promising you more goals,” said Myaba.

“I think we need to keep on working hard, consistency, scoring goals, keep on winning and get another three points on Monday. There is more to come.”

Myaba feels the Zimbabwean league is tougher than where he has played before.

“Zimbabwe is good, the league is a bit tough, it needs physical battles so I will keep on working hard to be strong in every battle, there is more to come, more goals to come.

“I think there is more time for me to fit into the team. The coach is giving me game time, I started the last game and now I was coming from the bench. I have more time to adapt and more time to score goals for the team.”

Having started against Highlanders at Rufaro on Sunday, Myaba was on the substitutes bench this time and was introduced in the 50th minute for midfielder Frederick Ansa Botchway.

Myaba thought he had scored a double but his effort was deemed to have not crossed the line as he was about to celebrate for the second time in the 80th minute.

In an eventful afternoon, Myaba had earlier seen his 55th minute header ruled out for offside.

On Sunday, their first mid-season signing, Terrence Dzvukamanja grabbed a brace as the Premiership newcomers collected all points against Highlanders at Rufaro.

Interestingly, Scottland’s opening goal against Bosso was a header off a corner kick as was the case yesterday. Scottland are now just a point behind bitter rivals, MWOS having trailed by nine points a few weeks ago.

It was the first time Scottland have won three successive matches in their debut season with yesterday’s win coming on the back of identical 2-1 wins over Ngezi Platinum (away) and Highlanders (home).

Despite being set a target of a Top Five finish by club president Scott Sakupwanya, coach Tonderai Ndiraya can smell the title and will be inspired to keep pressure on reigning champions Simba Bhora. Simba Bhora’s impressive unbeaten run was halted at Ascot on Wednesday as TelOne cruised to a 2-0 victory.

Ndiraya was impressed by the team’s performance as they took advantage of slip-ups by Simba Bhora and MWOS.

“We came here for maximum points. The team put in a very good shift. If you look at the game we played on Sunday, it was an energy-sapping one and for the boys to come here and perform the way they performed today, what more can you ask for as a coach?

“Really, really impressed, happy for the boys. With a bit of precision, we could have scored more than two goals today. Tymon Machope had two clear-cut chances, Kingsley Mureremba also had a very good chance in the first half.

“They should have put those away to at least ease pressure on us in the second half, I knew that in the second half we would have a bit of tired legs due to the intensity of the match that we played on Sunday,” said Ndiraya.

In yesterday’s other match, Highlanders disappointed a decent midweek crowd at Barbourfields with a goalless draw against Triangle.

Highlanders have continued to struggle for goals and points despite the dismissal of Zambian coach, Kelvin Kaindu.
