Feeling off the weather cocktail

FEELING a bit off the weather and still want to have a sip of something alcoholic, fear not, I have your back.

No one likes getting ill, from having a sore throat to lingering coughs. There are natural cold remedies to choose from, but did you know that a few sips from your favourite alcoholic drink could give relief?

So, what’s the best alcoholic drink for sore throat and cough? I am sure you have heard of how alcohol can heal a cold or cough.

Many people think it’s a lie but on the contrary, it is actually true.

There are several concepts and recipes that people often use to get rid of an irritable cough or sore throat.

Personally, I know of whiskey, gin and recently learnt of a recipe that just might work out for you.

As I was saying, with whiskey a single shot can soothe your throat and ease a tight chest.

Then comes gin, gin is naturally a medicinal drink that was however, turned into a recreational drink over the years.

Try heating up a few shots, add a bit of wine lemons and orange slices and of course a tad bit of water.

It has to be taken warm and it is quite tasty though a bit rough for non-alcohol drinkers.

Although this is not an excuse for you to waltz off to enjoy a heavy glass of liquor, the remedies do work and take effect within a few hours.

Not that I am implying anything but why do you think cold and cough mixtures are not sold off the counter at most pharmacies. The mixtures contain a percentage of alcohol, which I presume most of us are aware of.

And this gets me wondering, those who claim to have never tasted alcohol, how then do you justify this?

Anyway, that’s a study for another day. A lot of us have been arguing about some liquors that taste just like cough mixture such as Jägermeister.

In actual fact if you read more about the drink, you will learn that it is not a whiskey like what many people think but it is a highly refined liqueur made of 56 herbs, roots, fruits and spices.

It’s potently-flavoured herbal alcohol that offers health benefits. Originally, this German herbal drink was used for medicinal purposes just like gin.

But even today, many people who drink Jägermeister swear to its curing properties, especially in treating bronchitis, sore throats and coughs.

So, while I was out of town this week, I came across a recipe from a group of men sitting in a hotel bar. The recipe consists of two essential ingredients and the main one being Jägermeister, which I just briefly touched on but will delve further into shortly.

The second ingredient is ginger, whether it is ground, diced or sliced adding a few tiny slices into a glass with some warm water and of course Jägermeister can just heal your cold or cough. And you have to chew on the ginger in case you thought you could leave it in the glass. Sounds horrible right? But I thought of how it could be modified and add a sweet taste, oranges just may do the trick.

Back to Jägermeister, it features citrus peel, juniper berries and ginseng root among other ingredients that give it a unique flavour profile with hints of licorice and citrus.

In addition to those ingredients, Jägermeister also boasts a secret recipe with three additional undisclosed ingredients which gives it its signature taste.

It has a 35 percent ABV (alcohol by volume), it’s no wonder why this drink has become such a favourite among adults.

In recent years, Jägermeister has become one of the most popular supplements on the market due to its many potential benefits.

I read that studies suggest that this powerful supplement may be able to improve digestion, boost immunity and even reduce inflammation throughout the body. Worth the try right?

Its natural anti-inflammatory properties make it an ideal choice for promoting overall wellness and reducing symptoms of various conditions such as arthritis or other inflammatory diseases, so studies claim.

It is also claimed that Jägermeister has been scientifically formulated to provide an array of health benefits, including increased energy levels, improved mental clarity, enhanced focus, heightened alertness and improved sleep quality.

The ingredients found in Jägermeister are also believed to have natural diuretic properties which can help stimulate the production of gastric acids and enzymes which are necessary for complete digestion.

And finally, alcohol is a natural stress reliever and of course Jägermeister is said to help reduce stress levels and provide relief from physical pain.

Till next week, have a blissful and tipsy weekend.
