A SUSPECTED female fraudster was yesterday hauled to court to answer fraud charges involving US$6k.
Mazvita Deliwe Makava (41) was not asked to plead when she appeared before Harare magistrate, Dennis Mangosi.
The complainant is David Chidanhamabwe, who is self-employed as a contractor.
The court heard that in November last year, Makava approached Saliwe Tazvivinga and advised her she was selling her residential stand No. 386 Nzvimbo Growth Point, Mazowe, at a price of US$3 800.
Tazvivinga relayed the information to the complainant’s wife, Shalom Chidanhamabwe, who later informed her husband about the stand.
Chidanhamabwe became interested and arranged with Makava to meet at Saliwe Tazvivinga’s homestead.
On November 7 2021, Chidanhamabwe met Makava at Tazvivinga’s place at House number 385, Nzvimbo Growth Point.
He made a part payment of US$1 200 to Makava.
Makava allegedly made an acknowledgement of receipt of the money on a piece of paper.
The parties agreed that the balance was payable through Tazvivinga.
Chidanhamabwe tasked his wife to make another payment in the sum of US$1 800 to Makava.
On December 12, when the couple wanted to make the final payment, they were advised that the stand had been sold to someone else.
Makava only returned US$1 800, prompting the couple to make a police report.
Investigations revealed that Makava didn’t own the stand and had no right to sell it.
The second complainant is Lidlet Ruvarashe Kwatedza, who is a soldier, who also paid US$3 800 for the same stand and only managed to recover US$1 900.
Anesu Chirenje appeared for the State.
