adminSpeaking during a tree planting ceremony at the prison grounds on Thursday, director of Human Resources in the Justice and Legal Affairs Ministry Mr Maxwell Ranga applauded the gesture by various stakeholders in support of Fungisai’s noble homage to the prisoners.
“This is testimony that, our citizens are appreciating the works by Zimbabwe Prison Service to rehabilitate prisoners in preparation for their re-integration into society upon their release.
“I tell you this has inspired these vulnerable women who are willing and working hard to re-launch and improve their lives,” said Mr Ranga.
ZPS Deputy Commissioner Fadzai Mapure commended the gospel musician for bringing life into the Chikurubi Prison Complex and touching the hearts of the under privileged during this year’s festive season.
“We feel honoured to have such an event of giving and receiving which has brought together people from various walks of life and complements the efforts of the prison authority towards the inmates,” said Deputy Commissioner Mapure.
The gospel diva becomes the first artiste to perform in a prison and she managed to keep the inmates on their feet with some of the songs from her new ninth album named Wenyasha Ndewenyasha.
Inmate Lucy Munaka lauded the prison authority for allowing such an opportunity as it confirmed love and forgiveness from the society.
“This has come in handy in terms of the grocery donations and would like to appeal to the society for forgiveness because I have repented now and looking forward to be accepted back into society,” said Munaka.
Other stakeholders who onated goodies include Nestle, Nyaradzo Funeral Services, Chicken Slice and Friends of the Environment.
