training programmes, an official has said.
Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Republic Police Women’s Network Commissioner Nonkosi Ncube said it was the first time in the history of the Support Unit training to have a large number of females.
Addressing scores of people who attended the graduation ceremony of 125 Police Special Tactics Troop who are the Support Unit inductees, Commissioner Ncube said this was one of key result areas of Women’s Network advocacy.
“It is the first time in the history of Support Unit training programmes to have a 60 percent female representation. More importantly, the enrolment of women police officers in the once male dominated section is in line with Women’s Network advocacy for equal jobs and opportunities at work places,” she said.
Comm Ncube said the inductees should brace up for the challenges that mar their profession.
“It is without doubt that contemporary criminals are increasingly becoming complex and sophisticated yet the policing initiatives might be lagging behind. Accordingly, may I call commanders to continually carry out training exercises tailor-made to enhance skills and competence to stamp out potential threats to public peace and stability in the country,” she said.
She warned the graduates against corruption.
“I strongly warn the graduates to desist from corruption, bribery and all forms of illicit malpractices that will dent the good mane that the ZRP organisation has nurtured over the years,” she said.
The graduates comprised of 95 Support Unit inductees and 30 Police Special Tactics Troop, 18 of them female.
The graduates went through a three months training in foot drill, public order management, field craft, battle craft, map craft, physical training, the history of Zimbabwe among others.
Among best students were Rameck Phiri, Sinikiwe Helegwa, Trymore Mapfumo, Harrison Mtetwa and Trust Chikomo.
The graduates entertained the crowd with swift drill movement. They also later displayed several tactics learnt during the course of their training including assembling several type of guns blindfolded.
